Another successful Skipper Expo

Echomaster Marine returned from another successful Skipper Expo International in Galway. It was a pleasure to meet our Irish customers and dealers, and we are very pleased with the level of interest in all our products, with the Hondex HE-770 7" Echosounder proving to be the star attraction once again.

The organisers Mara Media have also been very pleased with the success of the show and have advised that Skipper Expo International Galway 2012 held on 24th and 25th Feb, lived up to all its expectations with satisfied customers, new contacts and excellent business being done over the two days of the event.

Over 100 exhibitors from many of the EU countries had the opportunity to present to visitors at the Galway Bay Hotel a broad range of products and services from all segments of the inshore fishing industry including safety, research and development. Over 4,500 visitors from the fish industry, retail and catering sectors made use of this annual opportunity for gathering information, networking and doing some serious business.

The Irish Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Simon Coveney, T.D spent several hours at Skipper Expo International Galway in the Galway Bay Hotel on the Saturday of the show where he met with exhibitors and fishermen from all around the coast. During his visit Minister Coveney said, “I am very impressed by the scale and expanse of this event which showcases a wide range of products and services for the fishing industry. While visiting the stands, I was able to meet and discuss with fishermen current issues and also get a good understanding of the latest developments and innovations in their industry”.

Sharon Boyle, Event Manager at Mara Media Ltd, said, “Having well and truly established itself over the last number of years, we have noticed a dramatic increase in the number and geographical spread of visitors to Skipper Expo International in Galway. The support from the industry continues to be very strong for this show and the number of visitors during the two day event once more exceeded expectations in what was a very busy weekend. Dates for next year’s show are 1st & 2nd March being held once more at the Galway Bay Hotel.”

Package for Eddie Macfarlane's New Build - Lonestar

Echomaster Marine supplied and commissioned the Simrad AP35 autopilot with RI35 rudder indicator and externally mounted S35 steering lever, Koden MDC921 radar and RT6215 Sailor VHF on Eddie McFarlanes’ new vessel, Lonestar, built by Gerald Smyth Boats of Annalong, Co. Down.

Gerald Smyth carried out the installation during the building phase at their premises in Annalong and Echomaster completed the commissioning at Eddie’s home port of Dunbar. The 6.9 meter vessel created a lot of interest at Fish Expo 2011 in Galway and Echomaster were pleased to be associated with the high standard of workmanship from Gerald Smyth. Eddie McFarlane has been a long standing customer of Echomaster and it was a pleasure to provide him with an electronics package for his new vessel.

Echomaster Marine will be attending the Skipper Expo in Galway on 24th and 25th February at the Galway Bay Hotel.

After a highly successful visit in 2011 we are pleased to be returning to the Skipper Expo in Galway. Once again we will be demonstrating the highly successful Olex 3D Seabed Mapping Chartplotter system, along with the Hondex and Suzuki Range of Echosounders. Echomaster Completes work on Radiance FR1

The engineers from Echomaster Marine recently completed installation of the electronics package for Robert Buchan's new 14m Scalloper/twin Rig trawler Radiance FR1.

The Radiance has been designed for a dual purpose role to allow for easy alternation between the seasonal fisheries, and to allow maximum flexibility for her owner and skipper.

Echomaster Marine installed a full electronics package onboard the Radiance, including the highly successful Olex 3D Seabed Mapping Chartplotter, along with the Sodena and Maxsea plotting systems. The Simrad AP35 autopilot was installed, heading was provided from the Furuno SC50 Satellite Compass and linked to the Olex to provide accurate route navigation. Also installed were a Furuno Open Scanner Radar, 2 GPS Receivers, Transas AIS, 4 Camera CCTV System, a full compliment of VHFs, MOB Guardian and AST VMS system.

All at Echomaster Marine would like to wish Robert Buchan, the Skipper Andrew Edmund and the crew of the Radiance Congratulations and Good Fishing.

Latest Completion from Anderson Marine

Echomaster Marine supplied and installed the full wheelhouse electronics package on the latest completion from Anderson Marine, the Kingfisher K20 - Carol Ann (PD175)

The Carol Ann has been fitted with the New Hondex HE-7380 Multiple Beam Echosounder. The HE-7380 is capable of searching a wider area up to 50 degrees at 200kHz in real time mode, with 5 beams in 10 degree steps. With the ability to set your display to show both the left and right side as well as the A Scope, you are able to see at a glance where the fish are in relation to the vessel.

This unique feature proved so sucessful at tracking Mackerel, a new order was received within 2 hours of the Carol Ann completing sea trials.

Carol Ann is also equipped with an Olex 3D Seabed Mapping Chartplotter and Lowrance HDS7m providing GPS information to the Olex and Icom IC-411 VHF. The HDS7m also serves as the vessel's back-up chartplotter and 2 kW HD Radar.

A Simrad AP35 Autopilot System with S35 Steering Lever, is interfaced to the Olex Chartplotter to provide accurate route navigation. This simple to use feature is now standard on many vessels.

Anderson Marine will have a demonstration boat fitted with an Echomaster Marine electronics package at Seawork 2011 in Southampton from 14th June to 16th June 2011, and Scottish Skipper Expo in Aberdeen on 24th and 25th June 2011.

Launch of Simrad Argus Radar System

Navico have recently announced the launch of the IMO X-Band Argus Radar series, highly sophisticated radars for use on commercial and Fishing vessels and Superyachts.

The Simrad Argus is first and foremost an IMO radar for safe navigation, but also incorporates the ability to integrate Simrad Broadband RadarsTM utilised for special functions such as Anti-piracy, Anti-collision, and Precision docking.

The Simrad ARGUS radars fully complies and exceeds IMO regulations. Thanks to the modular design, they can be either assembled to form a stand-alone display cabinet or be flush mounted into a mechanical bridge console. The standard configuration always includes full ARPA, AIS and an electronic built-in Interswitch for dual radar installations.

Orders for the New Argus Radar Systems will be taken by Echomaster Marine from 25th May 2011.

Echomaster install Wassp Multibeam echosounder on Sunbeam

Echomaster have installed a 160Khz. Wassp Multibeam echosounder on James Duthie’s Fraserburgh based pelagic trawler Sunbeam. Also installed were a Furuno SC30 GPS Gyro and Maretron SSC200 Rate Gyro with Pitch and Roll. The Sunbeam’s Olex chartplotter was upgraded with a Multibeam software module and a new 8-way video matrix system including two Simrad 26” LCD monitors was installed. During the autumn fishing season skipper James Duthie reported he was very impressed with the seabed mapping capabilities of the Wassp, especially on the Olex presentation.

Echomaster complete extensive refit on Forever Grateful

Echomaster have completed a major refit on the Fraserburgh based pelagic trawler Forever Grateful, owned by Excelsior Fishing. New products installed on Forever Grateful included a Simrad FS70 40Khz. trawl sonar with 200Khz. down sounder and Pitch and Roll sensors, and four Marport Hybrid Catch Sensors programmed to work simultaneously with the Forever Grateful’s older Simrad FS20/25 trawl sonar and the new FS70. A Wassp 160Khz. Multibeam Echosounder along with an Olex Multibeam software module was installed and these proved very successful during the autumn herring and mackerel season. One of Forever Grateful’s two Simrad ES60 split beam echosounders was upgraded to the new ES70 model to provide improved fish size and biomass data. Other new products installed were a Furuno SC30 GPS Gyro, Maretron SSC200 Rate Gyro with Pitch and Roll, 4 and 8-way video matrix units, new LCD displays and a complete rewire of the NMEA distribution network.

On April 1^st2010, Echomaster Marine opened its new office at 21, Shore Street Macduff. Situated directly across from Macduff harbour entrance, the new location features a sales area where products from all the leading manufacturers can be seen, with many of them in live demonstration mode, including echosounders from Simrad, Suzuki, Hondex and Fuso. Also on display is the new Simrad NSE combination GPS/Chartplotter/Radar/Echosounder from Navico.

New Simrad SX93 Sonar Detects Massive School of Mackerel

The all new SX93 sonar use two high specification computers, one dedicated to processing the complex beam-forming technology unique to Simrad and the other to control operator selectable functions including full 360 degree beam stabilization, dual beam selection, multi-frequency operation, audio output and dual mode presentation - where the sonar can operate on two independently controllable frequencies. The sonar was used in dual mode presentation during the trip, with one mode dedicated to long range detection typically using 3 Degree tilt and the second mode for short range catch control using an average of 12 Degree tilt.

Bjorn Kalestad from Simrad and Graeme Smith from Echomaster sailed with the Sunbeam on their first trip with the SX93 to ensure everything was working to specification and to provide training on its many unique features.

During the trip a number of massive schools of mackerel were detected. One school covered an area 3.5 kilometres long and some 50 metres deep and was the largest single school anyone on board had ever seen recorded on a sonar. Based on scientific surveys of mackerel by the Institute of Marine Research in Bergen, the school has been estimated to contain 200,000 tons of fish, more than the total Norwegian mackerel quota. It was detected in less than five seconds by one sonar ping!

A growing trend in Norway has been the installation of scientific acoustic equipment on board fishing vessels, enabling Norwegian skippers to participate in scientific data collection in exchange for extra quota. The SX93 on Sunbeam is equipped with a unique, dedicated Scientific Output facility, making it the only UK vessel with a multi-frequency sonar operating from 20 to 30 Khz., capable of participating in research projects.
