Simrad EY60 Scientific

The portable scientific Simrad EY60 echo sounder is designed for rugged conditions. It is especially well suited for use in lakes and rivers.

Used with the Sonar4 and Sonar5 post-processing software from Lindem Data Acquisition, the Simrad EY60 provides biologists, scientists and technicians with the most easy-to-use and reliable biomass assessment and fish tracking tool today. All post-processing packages compatible with the Simrad EK60 system can also be used with the Simrad EY60.

Echo sounder software

The Simrad EY60 uses the Simrad ER60 echo sounder software application. This is the same application as used on the Simrad EK60 system.

System components

The portable Simrad EY60 can be delivered in a rugged transport case. The transceiver unit, the portable computer and a global positioning system (GPS) system are already connected, and the only external connections required are the power source (normally a car battery) and the transducer.

Applications

The Simrad EY60 is ideal for both fixed and mobile configurations. A typical mobile survey will involve both vertical and horizontal orientation of the acoustic beam to be able to monitor fish distribution in the whole water column. Monitoring fish migration in rivers normally involves one transducer with the acoustic beam pointing horizontally from one the other side of the river. Reflection of sidelobes from the surface and the bottom, is a common problem in shallow waters, especially during horizontal beaming. The new composite transducer series (70, 120, 200 kHz) are beneficial in shallow water environments due to its low sidelobes. Alternatively, our elliptical transducers, are particularly suited for fixed location horizontal monitoring of fish movement.
